The hunt clouded the mind of the goddess as her slender body weaved with a predatory stealth through crowded moss painted trees. The mare's eyes flashed golden and a hiss sounded in her ear. The source of the noise was a slender python of brown and green patterns that kept its muscular body woven around the equines front leg. Together the pair kept deep quiet breaths as they kept the noise they made to the minimum. Naturally the goddess always moved like this, she was Artemis goddess of the night and hunt. A raven flew overhead the duo as they descended deeper and deeper into the forest. A shrill whinny rang to the onyx hued bird as she escalated her pace to a loping canter. The sound was glorious, almost as if a big cat prowled within her windpipes giving her a savage howl with her natural equine voice.
Agility flowed gracefully through the dark bay mare blended into the trunks of trees that aged as gracefully as she did. The mare was as old as history could remember and still her beauty made Narcissus swoon. A smirk curved across the velvet lips of the femme as the snake whispered with sly tones in her ears. "M'lady I can smell the kill ahead can't you." Oh yes she could smell the musk of a young doe from yards away and she flared her nostrils wide to fill her brain with the memory of smell. It is known that memories based on smell are more concrete then ones based on any of the other senses. The taste of fresh meet danced across her tongue as she stopped planning her attack. The vixen tossed her head to the snake and they were off.
Faster than normal speeds blurred the view of Artemis's legs as she descended from the back end of the deer. Before her quarry noticed her presence the mare halted her body slightly damp from a thin layer of sweat. Intelligence sparked in her eyes as her mind processed her best attack route. Choosing to plainly approach the deer Artemis sauntered up to the fragile looking creature. It was almost unfair how prey animals trusted the goddess because of her pacifist exterior. Most animals didn't understand that she was the goddess of hunt and loved the taste of a fresh kill. Occasionally if Artemis was feeling more malicious she would exchange idle banter with her kill and make it feel comfortable and spring her attack.
Tonight though patience was not among her arsenal of virtues and just as the doe met the piercing stare of the mare Artemis was upon it. Retractable fangs met the jugular of the smaller creature as a fell swoop brought the young animal to the ground. Despite being the goddess of hunt Artemis still enjoyed the normal equine diet of grass and still partook in the ritual of being a veggie eater as well. As the doe took its last breath the slender snake came off of her leg and curled itself atop the carcass. "Well done m'lady." As always the voice was only heard by Artemis and she nodded her head. "Why yes I do agree." Her voice was silky and melodic, but yet still held an edge of danger about it. That was the only thing she said as she descended her face into the warm flesh of her kill, savoring the flavors of victory.
