Shadows. They dance gracefully across the ground like dancers on a stage; twittering about like twisting, leaping flames. Only, shadows do not give off light - they flee from it. Disappearing on the spot, but they don't really disappear do they? No, they just shift position, sticking close to their mothers and fathers like a flea to a dog or a bird to their nests - they always return, one way or another. Where one exist the other must die - that is the rule of this world when it comes to such opposites. Unfair? Maybe, maybe not. We shall see.
But, there are different kinds of shadows are there not? The kind that lies flat and bends to your every move and will, while there are others; ones that are as physical as you are. That rise from the ground with great potential and evil intentions. These, they live on fear and haunt your nightmares. The things that go bump in the night and cause little children fear. Something in your closet? You'd better believe there is. And if you're mortal, you're not going to see it till it's too late. But me? I can see, manipulate, distroy and control them. Distort their shapes or make them disappear all together. Who am I? It's about time you ask.
My name is Hades, god of the dead and master of the shadows. But don't get me confused with the god of death because we are not the same. I simply lead the dead, guiding through their life as useless, homeless souls. He is my farrier. My second gift? Yes, that's correct, I have more than one. I know and understand the unseen greats of this earth. From fertilization to metal minerals like gold and silver. It's a knowledge that I don't use all too often, but something to gloat about nonetheless. Such things are useless in the equine world, so why should I go through the trouble of uncovering them? Unless Hephaestus is going to make me a new crown, such things are to be left secret and hidden. My powers are great - whether you appreciate them or not.
My personality? Ha, why don't you meet me? Too afraid? Fine by me. I'm solitary, more like a cat than an equine - of any mortality. The mere sight of me is something odd in the eyes of the deities and regular equines. My being is seemingly on the breath of the wind, there one moment and gone the next. I melt into the shadows with ease, able to cover great distances in a very short amount of time. People are under the misconception that, because I am a god, that I give a damn about their problems and issues. Well I've got news for you: I don't care. And I mean that to the point, I really, honestly don't care about your problems. You could be burning in a pit of lava and I'll just watch with a smirk on my face. It is not my job to help helpless victums of their own stupidity and their Mother Nature - let another God take care of that. No, it is my job to escort your soul to the underworld. But I don't really lift a single finger...hoof? The cats are my servants and the ravens my eyes - even though I am on good terms with a three headed dog. Ever seen a ghost? That's someone that we just haven't gotten around to yet. There is no specific reason, but my maids and butlers just seem to over look these beings. Which is fine, as long as they get around to them eventually.
I will get off my lazy ass to do some things when I'm bored, however - which is not always so great for the one I'm escorting. They are always honored though, to be escorting by a God is not something to be taken lightly. Are you stupid enough to ask if I stand out among them? Of course you fool. If my features aren't enough for you, my very presence is enough to make a mortal want to shrivel up and die. This feeling of horror is strong and not mistakable. Oh, and don't touch me - bad things will happen. To a God or Goddess, there will be little to no affect, but to a mortal? Anything from nightmares to the thoughts of suicide will rampage through your mind. Need to know anything else? Too bad, you'll have to meet me - or someone very close to me - first. You all will eventually - alive or not.
